The Manteca Little League Pirates were the youngest team in the California District 67 tournament, but that didn’t stop them from excelling and defeating the Spreckels Park Phillies 8-3 Sunday to claim the championship. 

The Phillies defeated the Pirates Saturday 9-5 to extend the tournament to Sunday’s winner take all contest.

 Pirates were paced by solid pitching from Kyle Rachels with 3 innings pitched with 7 strikeouts and Uriah Bonds with 3 inning-pitched of one hit ball.  The Pirates played outstanding defense especially middle infielders Alex Gouveia and Logan Quan that prevented Spreckels Phillies from mounting rallies.  The Pirates also got timely hitting from Kyle Rachels 2-2 with a double, Haven Alimboyoguen 1-2 with a double and Carlos Gallardo, Ferrin Manuleleua and Alex Gouveia with key hits.

 Spreckels Phillies were paced by Mason James 2-3 with a triple, Jesse Babauta 1-3 with a double and Christopher Contrerous 1-3 with a single.

 Both teams represented the City of Manteca in a very positive manner throughout and the City of Manteca dominated the California District 67 Minor TOC tournament with Manteca Pirates finishing first, Spreckels Phillies second and the Northgate Dodgers finishing third.  District 67 is made up of leagues from Manteca, Tracy, Lathrop, Weston Ranch, Mountain House, Salida and Patterson.

 The MLL Pirates consist of Haven Alimboyguen, Uriah Bonds, Kenji Breitenbucher, Andrew Brunn, Carlos Gallardo. Matthew Gomez, Alex Govveia, Darin Gusters, Clayton Lauborough, Ferrin Manuleleua, Logan Quan, Kyle Rachels, and Anthony Ramos.

The Pirates season concludes with a District 67 Championship and a 26-2 overall record.
