MFC Flames take third tourney championship

TRACY — The Manteca Futbol Club Flames continued their rampage through tournament action during the spring season this past weekend.

The Flames picked up their third straight tournament title, claiming the 3rd Annual Orange Bowl under-10 girls gold division with a 3-0-1 record at Plasencia Fields.

After going through pool play unbeaten, MFC dispatched the Redwood Alliance Rays 3-1 in the championship match Sunday evening. Jocelyn Reyes, Lejla Pepic and Selena Alvarez each scored.

Goalkeeper Andrea Eusebio opened tournament play with two shutouts.

The Flames burned Livermore Fusion FC 5-0 in the first game with two goals coming from Faith Chavez. Maddie Cuculich played outstanding defense to help preserve the shutout.

Manteca FC’s next victim was the Gryphons Red, who fell, 6-0. Nathalie Munugia pitched in with her first goal of the season.

Santa Clara Sporting Green gave the Flames their best test of the weekend. The Flames clinched their finals berth with a 2-2 tie. Selena Alvarez and Dayana Hernandez each scored.

Alexis Vilarino (midfielder) and Daisy Galindo (defender) also played key roles in the Flames’ championship run.

Manteca FC will next play in the NorCal Premier Regional Spring quarterfinals this weekend in Union City.
