MODESTO — The Yellowjackets of East Stockton had too much sting for the outmanned and outmatched Delta Rebels varsity youth football squad to handle Saturday at Johansen High’s Dan Gonsalves Field.
After putting up two of the game’s first three scores, the Rebels were unable to keep the talented Yellowjackets handcuffed in a 46-12 loss during Saturday’s Delta Youth Football League Super Bowl showdown.
Delta (10-3), last year’s Super Bowl champion and two-time South Conference titleholder, did well to throw the first punches, but East Stockton (13-0) put up 20 unanswered in the second quarter before completing the rout.
“Not much I can say, but I am proud of our boys for hanging tough against a great football team,” Rebels coach Tom Perea said. “They were bigger, faster and all-around better athletes.
“My boys have a lot of heart. All season they’ve been playing ironman football with only 18 players, and they managed to fight their way back to the Super Bowl. I’m happy with our season, it was a good run.”
Quarterback Bobby Landrum caught fire early, hitting D’Ari Abercrombie for a 23-yard touchdown in the opening quarter. He later found Jamontee Jones for a 40-yard pass-and-catch play, setting up Jeremy Randall’s 2-yard TD run.
Landrum finished four-of-seven passing for 75 yards. Anthony Cota grinded out 52 yards on nine carries, while Jones finished with 12 for 47.
Ryan Fox, Eric Herrada and Randall (sack) each recorded eight tackles to lead the defense. Miguel Gamez had a sack.
