For the next several weeks, you can experience Christmas in the country right here in Manteca.

Not downtown, but on South Manteca Road at New Buds Nursery Home & Gift Décor. For the second year in a row since Todd and Annette Roddan opened their business on a three-acre property surrounded by almond orchards, New Buds is offering a number of attractions for the entire family during the holiday season.

There will be free pictures taken with Santa available every weekend through Christmas. And on Dec. 4 and 5, New Buds will open its doors in the evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Regular business hours seven days a week are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

New Buds is more than just a nursery offering a wide variety of plants and trees for avid gardeners plus, at this time of the year, fresh-cut Christmas trees that Todd Roddan just brought down from Oregon  in a huge truck that he himself drove. There’s more to discover inside the Italian-style boutique store, hundreds of selections to feather the home nest. These include all kinds of scented candles, metal art, mirrors framed with metal art some of them life-sized, and decorative fountains to name just a few. Some of the items inside the Christmas boutique are being offered at 20 percent discounts during the holiday shopping period. Complimentary gift wraps are also available.

The boutique shop itself is worth a visit to New Buds Nursery. The sprawling building with columned wrap-around patios reminiscent of a Mediterranean home, was built and designed by Todd Roddan who is a general contractor by profession. But what you see outside is just the tip of the iceberg. Inside, the Roddans did not leave out any artistic detail. The tromp l’oeil-painted walls are the works of an artist. Even the cashier area, cleverly situated in the central part of the boutique, exudes an Italian architectural element complete with a tiled roof to complement the building’s overall architectural theme.

The spacious patio areas are available for groups that want to have special meetings there. One group that has taken up this invitation is the Ripon Garden Club which had their September meeting at New Buds with Todd Roddan as their featured speaker.
