Kamara has made an immediate impact in his first season with Sierra.
A transfer from East Union, the junior sprinter helped the Timberwolves complete a perfect run to the Valley Oak League championship last week while setting a new program. Two days later, he came home with two medals from the 43rd Sacramento Meet of Champions.
“We’re excited to have Blama be a part of our program this year,” Sierra coach Jeff Greene said. “He’s got a great attitude toward helping out his team and wants to make an impact in every event he participates in. Breaking this record was the first step in his journey of continuing to reset records at Sierra High.”
Kamara hit the ground running after serving the sit-out period, per California Interscholastic Federation transfer rules. He broke through the 50-second barrier for the first time in the 400-meter dash during a league meet against East Union on April 9.
Last Thursday, in Sierra’s final league dual meet against visiting Central Catholic, Kamara won with a record time of 48.49 seconds. The previous record of 49.32 was established by Noveleen Thiara at 49.32.He was also on the winning 4x400 relay with Anthony Glover, Sebastien Paterson and Christian Gonzalez.
In the SMOC, held at American River College, he won the varsity division 400 in 48.54, which would have been the third fastest time in the open. He was also on the mile relay, which recorded a season-best time of 3 minutes, 25.57 seconds en route to a third-place finish in the open.
Up next is the VOL Championships on Thursday at Manteca High.
