2 community dinners plus turkey bowl

Giving thanks by sharing is the hallmark of three events consisting of two free community Thanksgiving dinners and the 23rd annual Turkey Bowl that benefits the homeless ministries at Crossroads Grace Community Church.

You can watch the fun of the touch football game at Woodward Park from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. today. Last year there were 230 players.

A free community Thanksgiving dinner is being served today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane.

The dinner is being coordinated by the Sunrise Kiwanis on a first-come, first-served basis. They can serve 350 meals.

Kari Tapia of the Sunrise Kiwanis noted the dinner is for those who otherwise wouldn’t be having a Thanksgiving meal.

Helping the Sunrise Kiwanis with sponsorships to purchase food and other needed items are the Manteca Soroptimists, Manteca Noon Rotary, Manteca Morning Rotary, Manteca Lions, Manteca Police Employees Association, and Jacob Neven of State Farm Insurance.

Lathrop Sunrise Rotary is hosting its first annual community Thanksgiving dinner today as well at the Lathrop Senior Center.

Two hundred people will be able to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner, complete with turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, and pumpkin pie for dessert. Seatings are at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
