Plans for a weekend fishing trip in the foothills were cut short Friday morning when an angler pulled out of a restaurant driveway about 9:15 a.m. in the 1700 block of East Yosemite Avenue. Making a left turn into the eastbound lanes his 2011 Silverado pickup truck, pulling a 12-foot boat, collided with a west-bound 1994 BMW sedon.

Michael Gonsales, of Newark, was headed for the foothills with friends.

Police said the BMW, driven by Hector G. Munoz, of Stockton, struck the boat trailer in its mid-section and knocked the boat off onto the roadway.  The boat received damage to its port side from the impact.  The BMW had major damage to the front of the vehicle and the driver’s airbag had deployed protecting the motorist from major injury.

Manteca firefighters were called to the scene to remove vehicle fluids that had spilled into the middle of Yosemite Avenue.  There was no apparent damage to the truck that had pulled off into a commercial business location.  Tow trucks were called to the scene to remove the vehicle and the boat from the center turn lane just east of Highway 99.
