“Financial peace” is being offered through a series of classes at a Manteca church over the next three months.

“This is a great program for anyone who is struggling with debt, living from pay check to pay check or who just wants to learn more about how to handle their finances,” said class coordinator Bryan Holland.

Financial Peace University (FPU) is actually a video class taught by Dave Ramsey and is to be hosted by the New Hope Foursquare Church on Comconex Road off of  East Highway 120.

Those needing a better financial understanding of their current debts and direction in how to eliminate them may attend a video preview presentation Sunday, Jan. 4, at noon.  There is no charge to attend  the preview event.

The informative sessions are set to begin Sunday, Feb. 8, and will run from 3 to 5 p.m.  Two Sundays are going to be skipped — Easter and Mothers’ Day.

“In FPU you will meet with your class each week to watch a video lesson and participate in discussion groups that will change how you think about money,” Holland explained.

He added that each of the 13 lessons deals with a different topic geared to change the way a person thinks about personal finance.  He further noted that Ramsey teaches about how to save money, live on a budget, communicate about money, eliminate debt, find bargains and how to experience the joy of giving.

Holland said that over 65,000 families have completed the FPU course with “amazing success.”  “On average, they pay off $3,500 in debt and save $2,700 in just 13 weeks.  That’s an $8,000 change in position in just 91 days.”

Cost of the class is charged  by family unit if paid through the New Hope Church in the amount of $99.51.  Married couples are regarded as a family unit as are  engaged couples who plan to marry within  the next year.
