Man killed in backyard near Manteca High campus

A predawn shooting Sunday morning in Central Manteca left one man dead and another injured.

An 18-year-old man was killed and a 23-year-old wounded in the incident in the backyard of a home in the 100 block of South Sherman Avenue across from Manteca  High.

Manteca Police responded at 4:39 a.m. to a residence where the two had been shot in the backyard.

Medical aid was rendered to both men. The 18-year-old male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 23-year-old male was transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and later released.

Manteca Police said the two were at the home for a “get together” when the shooting occurred.

The names of the victims are not available for release until notification of family. 

Detectives are not releasing any further details at this time. The investigation is still ongoing.
