A 33-year-old stabbing victim was holding on to his life Sunday in a regional trauma center after being stabbed multiple times in the parking lot of a Moffat Boulevard motel shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday.

Manteca Police believe the attack may have been gang related.

Police received a 911 call from a citizen walking by the Inn by the Station reporting a fight in progress where five or six males were attacking a lone subject.  Officers arrived within minutes unable to find anyone in the 300 block of Moffat Boulevard.

Some 10 minutes later the police dispatcher received a call from Doctors Hospital of Manteca reporting they had a male victim suffering from  a knife wound.

Believing the two calls might be related, the officers returned to the motel and located the scene of the stabbing where they found blood evidence in the parking lot.  The victim was later transferred to a trauma center by ambulance from the Manteca hospital where he underwent surgery for his stab wounds. Asof early Sunday morning he remained in critical condition.

The victim was currently from Stockton and formerly a resident of Manteca.    Anyone with information of this crime is urged to contact Detective Stephen Schluer at 209.456.8210 or Crime Stoppers 209.823.INFO.
