Julia Vigallon shared a quote from Dr. Seuss at Tuesday’s eighth-grade promotion event at Golden West School.

“You’re off to great places, today is your day! Your mountain is waiting so get on your way,” said the student body president at the Manteca Unified school site.

She was among the 56 students who received their promotion certificate to attend high school in the fall. On this special occasion, the eighth graders were there to enjoy the moment.

“Tonight’s ceremony is just one moment in time,” said classmates Stephanie Flores and LeEssa Pierce, reflecting on the past nine years at the school. “But the memories here at Golden West will last forever.”

Added Principal Sherie Gates: “There was several standing of those arriving (at Golden West) in kindergarten as the original Class of 2013.”

She also gave a rundown of those earning top academic honors.

Included were 15 receiving gold honor cords with 3.5 grade point averages or higher for all three semesters – Karla De La Cueva, Ezra Lenhardt, Nate Padilla, Guadalupe Piceno, DeJohnya Pryor,  Brandon Zarate, Yesenia Chaidez, Ramon Perez, Destinybless Gurrola, Sheila Linares, Kaitlyn Turpin, Aileen Aleman, Stephanie Flores Herrera, Ymelda Simental, and Vigallon.

Flores Herrera and Deangelo Gonzalves were honored for perfect attendance.

In addition, Yadira Medina and Chaidez earned the MUSD Resolution of Recognition for Exemplary Character.
