Last year, some 3,700 third-grade students from throughout south San Joaquin County converged at the Manteca Unified school farm for AgVenture.

That's the one-day event held this time of the year as a program of the San Joaquin Farm Bureau Federation.

AgVenture 2018 kicks off Thursday morning at the MUSD complex at the corner of Airport Way and Louise Avenue.

The other two AgVentures will be held later in the school year at Stockton and Lodi.

AgVenture is expected to provide an estimated 11,000 from throughout the county with the knowledge of growing and processing of commodities along with experiencing farm animals and equipment first hand.

For third graders, AgVenture also covers California history, is a part of their required curriculum.

They'll come from Manteca Unified, Ripon Unified, Escalon Unified, Tracy Unified, and the Jefferson, Banta, and New Jerusalem school districts, to name a few, to the MUSD school farm, listening to four 10-minute presentations on the many ag-related areas.
