Josh Harder will start his 10th term in Congress after scoring a comfortable win Tuesday.
Harder was outpolling his Republican opponent John McBride by a 2 to 1 margin in early returns from San Joaquin and Contra Costa counties.
“From Day One, this campaign has been about one thing: protecting the future of our families. I’m grateful to have received the support and trust of our community to continue that work in Congress,” Harder said in a statement Tuesday evening.
“As a dad to two young daughters, this fight is incredibly personal to me. Like every parent, I want my kids growing up in good schools and safe neighborhoods, with access to affordable housing, good jobs, and lifelong success. That’s the future that’s been under threat from Washington over the past two years, and tonight voters made it clear that enough is enough.
Harder, who has served in Congress since 2019, has always represented part or all of San Joaquin County.
In the House, Harder serves on the Appropriations Committee and is a vice chair of the center-left New Democrat Coalition. He has repeatedly introduced legislation to block the Tunnel and has sponsored bills on fentanyl abuse and utility rates.
“With our victory tonight, we’re going back to Washington to fix our broken government and restore families’ trust in government,” Harder said. “That means lowering the price of gas, groceries, and housing. It means reversing critical healthcare cuts and bringing more doctors and nurses to our community. It means ending the war in Iran and the relentless attacks by ICE in our neighborhoods. And it means rooting out the corruption that has infected our politics.”
Harder, 40, is a Turlock native and resides in Tracy with his wife and two children.
The Modesto High graduate has ties to Manteca where his great-great-grandfather settled to start a peach farm.
A graduate of Stanford University, he worked with a venture capital firm and taught at Modesto Junior College before campaigning for Congress.
“I promise to never give up in this fight, and I look forward to continuing to work on behalf of our families.”
