The second enrollment meeting for the Great Valley Academy Manteca will be held Thursday, Jan. 27, starting at 6 p.m. at The Place of Refuge (Assembly of God) church’s Manteca Christian School.
The church is located at 486 Button Avenue off East Highway 120.
At the orientation meeting, families interested in enrolling their children at the Manteca campus of the Modesto-based charter school will have the opportunity to get answers to whatever questions they have about the school. They can also expect to “learn about the vision and philosophies” of the school plus gather details about such things as the length of a school day and the school’s dress code.
At the end of the meeting, parents may choose to enroll their child at that time. Birth certificates, immunization record and related documents are not required at this time.
Parents must attend an orientation meeting before they can enroll their child.
The proposed charter school in Manteca is proceeding with enrollment even though their application to open an extension in Manteca is not yet approved.
The initial application filed by Great Valley Academy Modesto with the Manteca Unified School District was denied by the Board of Trustees in December.
On Jan. 19, Great Valley officials appeared before the San Joaquin County Office of Education Board of Trustees during the public hearing of their appeal on the Manteca Unified’s denial. Trustees with the County Office of Education will make known their decision whether or not to approve Great Valley’s Manteca charter application at their meeting in February.
At the same time, Great Valley is proceeding in their negotiations with The Place of Refuge for the future rental use of the Manteca Christian School facility. Availability of a school location is part of the requirement for the charter application to be approved.
