LATHROP – The Lathrop High School Sober Grad Committee is pulling out all the stops for the school’s 2012 graduates.

The group has set up a series of fund-raisers in hopes of raising $15,000 to $25,000 so the graduates will be able to celebrate the successful completion of their high school education in a “fun, safe and alcohol/drug-free environment,” which is the mission of the Sober Grad program.

“We will be having various activities for them to do, lots of food for them to eat, and many raffle prizes for them to win. Our hope is that all Lathrop High graduates who attend our Sober Grad will leave with some sort of prize,” which is the reason for their need to fund-raise, stated LHS Sober Grad Committee chairperson Jeryl Weiler in an e-mail to the Bulletin.

Below are the activities being planned or are already ongoing. The public is invited to support the Spartans’ Sober Grad by taking part in any, or in all, of the following fund-raisers:

• A Black Oak Casino bus trip set for Saturday, March 3. The bus will leave the Target store commuter lot in Lathrop at 9 a.m. and return at 5:15 p.m. the same day. Tickets are $35 each and will include $10 in play, $5 in match play, and 10 percent off some of the restaurants in the casino.

• Visit Mixed Bags Designs at www.mixedbagsdesigns.com and make your purchase at the online store. For every purchase you make, Lathrop High Sober Grad will get 40 percent of the profits if you indicate fundraiser #73230 when you check out. This fund-raiser is ongoing.

• A Texas Roadhouse drive-thru dinner is planned for early March with the exact date and other details to be announced.

• A See’s Candy fund-raiser is also planned sometime close to Easter.

To help get the word out on what is being planned for the Sober Grad 2012 party, and how the parents and the public can help provide a fun and safe after-graduation celebration for the graduating seniors, the committee has set up the following website: www.lhssobergradparty.com. There is also a dedicated e-mail address for this same purpose: lhssobergrad2012@yahoo.com.

The key people involved with Weiler in Lathrop High’s Sober Grad committee are Shari Downum, Niki Thomas, Matilde Aguirre, and Jackie Baker.
