The accolades did not stop on graduation day the last week of May for Lawrence Silveira and Noelle Lanser.

The Sierra High graduates received more feathers on their caps a few days later from the Manteca Unified Board of Trustees at their last meeting when they were presented with certificates of recognition. Silveira was honored for his book, “Darkblade and the Secret Shadow,” which was released in March and is currently being sold on amazon.com.

Lanser was recognized for her cover illustration appearing on Silveira’s book.

Presenting the Timberwolves graduates with the awards was Sierra High Principal Steve Clark, who also put in a plug for the book. Reading the synopsis on the back of the paperback that he brought to the awards presentation, Clark said he was already on chapter seven but that he was not going to say anything more about the story while encouraging the audience to get their own reading copy.

A self-described big fan of comic book superheroes, Silveira is on his way to pursue his dream of becoming a professional writer. He is starting college this fall at Columbia College in Chicago where he will study creative writing. Lanser, to whom art is a hobby, is starting college at California State University, San Francisco this fall where she plans to study computer science.

Silveira is the son of Lathrop Elementary School Principal Dave Silveira and wife Stacy who also works with Manteca Unified as a teacher.

The budding author published his book through Amazon’s CreateSpace, a fast and easy way to get work published. It is available via the Amazon web site. The young writer said using this publishing venue suited his maiden effort as an author because it allows him to order only as many book copies to sell as he needed. During the May 10 Manteca Garden Tour, he had a table in his parents’ garden which was one of the six featured in the tour, where he sold and signed copies of his book. Ten percent of the sales were donated to the garden club.
