Some students of the Ripon Unified School District are nearing the end of their summer break.

At Ripon High, the school office re-opens on Tuesday, July 27, with the following two days reserved for registration.

The “Ripon Pow Wow” – as it’s officially known – will take place in the Multi-use Room from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, for juniors and seniors.

Freshmen and sophomores will meet on Thursday, July 29, at the same place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to RHS officials, it’s no longer mandatory for a parent or guardian to be present as students go through this process. However, students will be required to furnish the paper work with the proper signatures and money to cover the necessary expenses prior to getting their class schedules.

During this process, students will have their ID pictures taken and the option to purchase the photo package.

The RHS dress code will also be enforced.

The first day of school through Ripon Unified is Thursday, Aug. 5.

Meanwhile, students of the Manteca Unified School District can enjoy an extended summer vacation.

They’re not returning to the classroom until Monday, Aug. 16.

The 2010-2011 school year will also be a shorter one than that of the previous ones.

In order to save money, the state allowed school districts to reduce the school year, from 180 to 175 instructional days.
