Scholl seeks another trustee term

Manteca Unified Board of Trustees president Don Scholl has made it official. He is running for reelection. He filed his candidate’s papers at the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters in Stockton on Thursday.

His announcement leaves just one remaining board member, of the four whose terms are ending at the end of the year, who has not decided whether to seek another four years on the seven-member school panel. That’s Nancy Teicheira of Trustee Area 4.

Scholl is one of three board members representing different sections of Area 5. Area 2 Trustee Manuel Medeiros filed his papers on Monday. His reelection win in November would give him a total of 20 years on the school board at the end of his term.

The first to file official election papers was board vice president Evelyn Moore. She did it on the first official day of filing.

“I hope I get another chance to do another four years,” said Scholl, adding, he “really enjoys” serving on the school board.

“I got so much from the work that we’ve been doing. We’ve done great things in the district. A lot more big things are coming, and I want to help steer the district in the right direction. That’s my goal,” he said.

Scholl considers serving in the capacity of school board trustee as a “tremendous honor.” He thinks there’s no more “important elected position” than that of a school board because the job “affects so many in the community,” not to mention the impacts that service makes into the future.

As parks superintendent for the City of Tracy, his job is to oversee public parks and sports fields but gets his hands in a little bit of everything in Public Works as well. It’s a skill and knowledge that he brings with him to the school board panel in dealing with similar issues in the district.

The other members of the board whose terms will end in two years are Deborah Romero of Area 5, Michael Seelye of Area 3, and Sam Fant of Area 2.
