Elliott assuming supervisor role for Manteca, Tracy

STOCKTON – A presentation to outgoing San Joaquin County Supervisor Leroy Ornellas is among the first order of business when the board members have their organizational meeting on Monday, Jan. 7.

The swearing-in of Supervisors Bob Elliott, Carlos Villapudua and Steve J. Bestolarides will be held also during the meeting following the remarks of the outgoing chairman. Retiring after service as board chairman is Bestolarides who was re-elected for a second term in the November 2012 elections. He will be sworn in by Judge Richard A. Vlavianos of the San Joaquin County Superior Court.

Villapudua, who was also re-elected to a second term in November, will be sworn in by Attorney Howard L. Selilgman.

Elliott, who is the newcomer to the board, will take his oath of office from Congressman Jeff Denham of the 19th District in California. Elliott will represent the fifth district which boundaries include the southern and eastern section of Manteca in the same district as his hometown of Tracy. He will replace Tracy dairyman Ornellas who was prevented from running for another term due to term limits.

Elliott has served on the Tracy City Council.

Elliott also served for 30 years in the U.S. Army retiring as a colonel with the Special Forces. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He also had five years of diplomatic assignments with U.S. embassies in Tokyo and Seoul.

He has worked as a project manager for Westinghouse and GE in nuclear energy and explosives detection.

The newly seated board members will also elect the new board officers at the Monday reorganizational meeting to be held starting at 10 a.m. in the county building at 44 N. San Joaquin Street, Sixth Floor, Suite 627.

The other members of the board are Ken Vogel of the fourth district, and Frank L. Ruhstaller of the second district.

Monday’s meeting will adjourn to the board’s regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 8, beginning at 9 a.m.
