Staci Theiss was recently diagnosed with Stage IV cancer.
Stage IV is when the cancer has spread to other organs. For Theiss, who is the librarian at McParland Elementary School annex, her colon cancer has metastasized to her liver, according to Principal Dale Borgeson.
Her husband also works at McParland. Ben Theiss is the seventh-grade math teacher at the main campus. They have two daughters, Taylor, who is an eighth grader, and Maddie, who is a high school junior.
“They have decided that the best course of treatment is to go to the Hope4Cancer clinic in Mexico,” Borgeson said.
He noted that the clinic is not covered by couple’s health insurance.
The McParland staff and community are seeking support for Staci Theiss’ cancer treatments. They set up a Go Fund Me account (http://www.gofundme.com/team-theiss).
On top of that, they’re conducting a rummage & bake sale at the Manteca Unified elementary school campus at 1610 Northgate Dr. on Saturday, from 7 a.m. through 1 p.m.
Those looking to donate to the rummage sale can do so from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. today, Friday and before 7 a.m. on Saturday.
Volunteers are also needed (contact Melissa Snaer at msnaer@musd.net or Heather Gutierrez at hgutierrez@musd.net).
In addition, a drive-thru fundraising dinner is planned on Monday at Chez Shari, 305 N. Union Rd., from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $15 each and includes chicken, rigatoni, salad and a roll.
