Manteca Police Department arrested Joseph Cook, 47, in connection with a rash of downtown vandalism.

Since Sept. 9 there have been 9 separate acts of vandalism where windows have been shot out with a BB or smashed with a rock.

Police were able to obtain surveillance video of one of the vandalisms that took place in the early evening hours of Sept. 15. From the surveillance video, officers were able to identify the suspect as Cook.

Cook was located lurking about in the downtown area at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.  He was taken into custody by officers without incident.  Cook was not in possession of the BB gun at the time of the arrest.  During an interview with Cook he admitted to committing several of the vandalisms.

The Manteca Police Department credits the cooperation received by the downtown businesses in the success of this arrest.  Cook was arrested on felony vandalism charges and is being held on $25,000  bail at County Jail and is due in Manteca Court Department M1 today at 1:30 p.m.
