Members of the East Union High JROTC took first place in the obstacle course challenge and second in the 1.7-mile beach run at the US Army National Fitness Challenge in Florida.

East Union High cadets were among those competing in the 2024 US Army JROTC National Fitness Challenge held last weekend at the Plaza Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Members of Lancers Battalion competed against 74 of the best JROTC programs in the nation and “came out victorious,” Manteca Unified posted via social media (facebook.com/proudtobemusd).

The East Union team noted that three months of intense training paid off at the beach.

As a result, the Lancer cadets took first place in the obstacle course challenge and finished second in the 1.7-mile beach run amid the grueling Florida heat and humidity.

This marked the fourth year that East Union displayed excellence in Daytona while proudly representing the school district as well as the community on a national stage.

Members of the team included Joseph Perez (Team Captain), William Story (Assistant Team Captain), Ruben Davila, Adam Tavares, Gabriel Fincher, Leon Camacho, Andrew Perez, Gael Camacho, Brandon Garibay, Anthony Zavala, Jayden Hati-an, Antonio Rocha, and David Tafolla.
