2 others injured in three-vehicle highway crash

A 60-year-old man driving on East Highway 120 heading toward Manteca turned into the path of a semi-truck heading east triggering a crash that killed him and injured two others.

The 7:30 a.m. Tuesday collision happened near French Camp Road about midway between Escalon and Manteca. It ended up closing the highway for hours in both directions for five hours.

The California Highway Patrol indicated the man was driving an SUV when he turned into the semi-truck’s path colliding head-on. The impact pushed the SUV into a Hyundai sedan that had been traveling behind it triggering a fire that burned the SUV.

The A 21-year-old woman driver of the Hyundai sustained minor injuries while a 7-year-old boy who was a passenger in sustained “major” injuries. Both were taken to an area hospital.

The driver of the SUV died at the scene.

The cause of the crash is yet to be determined. Investigators, however, indicate drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors. Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP Stockton office at 209-938-4800
