Fires damage two Manteca homes 2½ hours apart displacing 11 people

Two early morning house fires about 2½ hours apart in Manteca early Wednesday morning displaced 11 people.

The first fire was reported at 2:31 a.m. in the 700 block of Privet Place east of Hacienda Avenue between Louise Avenue and Alameda Street. It involved a clothes dryer that caught on fire in the garage.

Most of the $60,000 in damages was limited to the garage with some minor smoke and fire damage to living areas.

All occupants were outside when Manteca Fire crew arrived. There were no injuries. There were two adults and four children displaced as the result of the fire.

Then at 4:51 a.m. as crews were getting their gear and equipment back in service, a second house fire was reported in the 1200 block of Christine Court.

A shed fire was spreading to a nearby home as well as almost catching a neighboring home on fire as well. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to a neighboring home as they extinguished the shed fire as well as flames that had spreads to a house. Damages were pegged at $50,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Manteca Police arrived before firefighters and evacuated residents and pets from both homes. Five adults were displaced.

Lathrop Manteca Fire District crews also responded to both fires.
