Giving Tree sports wishes for those in care center

The Giving Tree at Precision Automotive will again benefit residents at the Manteca Care & Rehabilitation Center.

That’s the Christmas tree inside the business at 475 Moffat Blvd., just south of Manteca High.

During business hours, those looking to help out can pick up a decorated “bulb” on the tree with the name of the patient, gender and his or her Christmas wishes – one resident, for example, requested perfume, body wash and lotion on her list while another asked for blanket, slippers and soft drinks.

Donors can always give more, if they wish.

“We tell (donors) whatever you can give,” said Debbie Robles, who is the activities director at Manteca Care & Rehab.

She indicated that the Christmas list is a suggestion and “just means whatever they can get – you don’t have to buy all the stuff (on the list),” Robles said.

She added: “You would be surprised how much they appreciate all this stuff.”

For Precision Automotive, this is the 11th year in a row for the Giving Tree program.

Santa Claus will distribute the Giving Tree gifts at Manteca Care & Rehabilitation Center’s annual Christmas party at 410 Eastwood Ave. scheduled 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24. Included will be Christmas carolers coupled with guests and families of the residents.

Many staff members, in addition, will volunteer by “adopting” a patient while local groups such as Second Chance will do likewise by purchasing gifts for those at the nursing home facility
