Got an older green cart? City wants to switch it for new one
manteca city logo
The City of Manteca seal as it is today without the original cross atop the rendering that initially was meant to represent a place of worship in “The Family City.”

Manteca residents with older green waste carts will be getting new 95-gallon replacement carts.

It is the third phase of the cart changeout program designed to allow not just for efficient weekly collection of all three carts but also to track issues to specific addresses.

The changeout will start Monday, Sept. 1.

It is expected to take crews until December to complete the changeout citywide.

When it is your day to make sure all green carts are placed curbside, a flyer will be placed on your door or mail box the prior business day.

That means if you are being asked to place them curbside on a Monday, you will receive a notice Friday.

Even though many residents already have the newer cart body, they will be asked to put them out curbside as well.

That will allow the city to record the serial number on the cart.

The changeout will standardize all carts to make for more efficient collection.

Many older carts also have substantial wear and tear.

They also don’t have an element that is critical for the city to zero in those that repeatedly don’t follow the rules that require recyclables not to be contaminated and carts not to be overflowing.

That element is an imbedded chip that can be scanned by route ware installed on solid waste collection trucks.

On the day you are requested to leave the green carts out, you are asked to keep them at curbside until 4 p.m.

Also, if you have multiple green carts, they all should be placed at the curb that day.

The cart check and, if needed, cart switch may not occur on your regular collection day.

If you miss your scheduled day, leave your garbage cart at the curb until 5 p.m. on your pick up days for staff to come back around and take appropriate action.

If you are unsure if your cart is still to be exchanged or if you already have the correct body style and size, email MantecaSW@Manteca.Gov for verification and a customer service representative will assist you.
