An open house is scheduled for next month at the David Luis Agricultural and Educational Facility.

Ripon Unified Superintendent Ziggy Robeson made that announcement at the March 8 school board meeting.

Luis was with the Ripon Consolidated Fire District for 26 years, serving as a firefighter, captain and chief officer before passing away 2016.

The Ripon High graduate was also remembered for his longtime commitment with the Ripon 4-H Club and the local chapter of Future Farmers of America.

As a volunteer, Luis coached football in Ripon for 23 years and devoted more than 20 years to supporting 4-H and FFA members and their swine projects. Luis’ work with the Ripon 4-H swine program was a source of great joy and he always felt honored to work with the kids and help them reach their goals.  

He also wass a member of the Ripon High School Agricultural Advisory Committee and worked on his family’s farm growing almonds and swine production.

In May 2019, the school board went with recommendation of the Naming Committee, honoring Luis with renaming of the Clinton School Farm, 21033 N. Ripon Road.

Robeson said the unveiling of the David Luis Agricultural and Educational Facility will take place on Saturday, April 24, during Farm Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The dedication event is scheduled to follow.
