Police are still trying to determine the identity of a man that is fighting for his life in an area hospital after an altercation in a busy commercial parking lot on Tuesday left him with major injuries.
According to the Manteca Police Department, the identity of the male transient that fell and hit his head after being tased by a security guard in the parking lot outside of the Manteca Food-4-Less location on Tuesday is still not known to investigators – and was listed in critical condition as of Wednesday afternoon.
According to witnesses, the man was causing a disturbance in the parking lot and was approached by a security guard working on behalf of the property owner. After the female security guard was shoved, she used a Taser-like device to incapacitate the man, and he reportedly fell backwards and hit his head on the ground.
None of the businesses in the shopping center where the incident occurred – located on the southeast corner of Yosemite Avenue. and Spreckels Drive – own the spaces that they occupy, and the security guard was reportedly hired by the property manager.
The man reportedly stopped breathing, and one witness claimed that the security guard did chest compressions until EMS arrived and transported the man to an area hospital.
A full investigation is currently underway with Detective Russ Smith at the helm, and investigators are still trying to find out the identity of the individual that was injured.
