If you don’t have dinner already planned for Saturday night, the MRPS Hall has got you covered.

And dinner looks good.

On Saturday, the organization – which has operated in Manteca for more than a century – will host its annual MRPS Scholarship Rib Dinner to help raise money for scholarships for local youth involved in hall activities.

The event typically kicks off a series of events stretching through the summer where the MRPS will represent Manteca through various Portuguese Festas throughout California – something that current MRPS Hall President Angela Seamas and her wife Danielle are currently preparing for.

And for Seamas, the event is another in a long line that she grew up attending and is now in charge of organizing as a legacy president for the organization.

“It feels great to be able to give back to kids that have grown up int his hall,” Seamas said. “I was one of those kids, and now am a 4th generation president.

“It almost doesn’t feel real, and then you spend three hours setting up chairs and tables – a quick reminder that it’s all hands on deck at the MRPS.”

The festivities begin at 133 N. Grant Street 6 p.m. with no-host cocktails, followed by an all-you-can-eat beef rib dinner prepared by Fagundes Meats and Catering – including Portuguese beans, bread, and salad as sides. A silent auction and a dance will follow.

Tickets, which are $40 for adults and $25 for children, can be purchased by contacting Angela Seamas at 209.923.5557. Tickets can also be purchased on Eventbrite by searching for MRPS.
