Looking to make a splash into 2020?

The City of Stockton and the YMCA will be hosting the first-ever Polar Bear Plunge on Wednesday, Jan. 1, at Oak Park Pool, 3754 Alvarado Ave.

This New Year’s Day free community event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The initial plunge will begin at 9:30.

According to organizers, a polar plunge is a winter event where participants enter a body water despite the temperature to celebrate new beginnings.

This inaugural event for those ages 6 and up will take place rain or shine.

Registration kicks off at 9 o’clock on New Year’s Day with snacks and hot beverages.

A post plunge celebration will follow at 10:30.

The Resolution 2 Mile Fun Run is back.

The Fleet Feet-sponsored event will take place at 265 Lincoln Center in Stockton on New Year’s Eve.

According to organizers: “We start the event at the stroke of midnight with a two-loop, two-mile course through Lincoln Center and Lincoln Village.”

Don’t feeling like going two miles?

Then just do one lap.

Hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be served throughout the evening.

This is an opportunity for participants to wear their best pajamas for not just the fun run but for a chance to win Fleet Feet gift cards.

Fleet Feet will also have a drawing for over $2,000 in gift cards and merchandise to all runners.

Registration – limited to 200 – is $20 and includes a custom long sleeve t-shirt, hot chocolate, coffee, cookies and a raffle ticket.

As a bonus, Fleet Feet will be giving away a $25 gift card to those who also sign up for the Brentwood Rotary New Year’s Day 5K run in the morning.

New Year fundraiser

Love INC otherwise known as Love In the Name of Christ is having its big New Year’s Eve bash on Tuesday at the Manteca Transit Center, 220 Moffat Blvd.

The local non-profit exists to serve area churches in meeting the basic needs of those in the community.

Cost is $60 per person and includes dinner, drinks and more, from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Proceeds will benefit the work of Love INC along with its featured partners.
