Caroline Hutto served the Ripon Unified school board president during some tough times.

“In 2019, I had no idea what was coming,” she said at Monday’s monthly session.

Hutto was referring to the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, when the school district was forced to shut down and students along with teachers opted for distance learning.

RUSD was one of the first school districts to return to in-person learning – that occurred later in Hutto’s first term as president.

She was re-appointed to the top board position in December 2020, with next month concluding her second term.

Trustee Kit Oase was tabbed as the next board president at the reorganization of the board / election of officer, with Chad Huskey serving as vice president and Christina Orlando taking on the duties of clerk.

Superintendent Ziggy Robeson praised Hutto for her efforts during the past two years, presenting her with a recognition plaque.

“I’ve worked with many trustees. The role of board president has a lot of responsibilities, including running the meetings efficiently. We were fortunate to have Caroline – it was an honor working with her during some difficult times,” she said.

Hutto responded, saying: “It’s been an honor.”

Oase will take over as board president at the January meeting.
