How important is customer service?
If you ask Manteca Councilwoman Debby Moorhead it’s extremely important.
While the council Tuesday was going over community survey responses regarding citizen satisfaction in their interaction with municipal departments, Moorhead shared a story that played a role in her decision to run for the City Council more than a decade ago.
She wanted to have a patio cover installed at her home when she was living in the Villa Ticino neighborhood north of the Manteca golf course near Stella Brockman School.
When she first applied for a permit the Community Development Department staff told her it was a no go based on her backyard.
That prompted her to push to get the staff to come out and look at her yard where she showed them where she wanted the patio cover to go point out it was within the allowable perimeters of the city’s zoning ordinance. She said the staff member agreed at that point.
She added that she never got a final sign-off on the installation of the patio cover and complained about the fact. That was the case until she got elected when she got a letter of apology and her permit signed off.
Moorhead added that the contractor she used said Manteca was the only place that he had issues in installing patio covers.
Irony of ironies: They like the
city’s solid waste effort
Given the slamming the City of Manteca solid waste division has received on social media since late November about the need to stop placing certain recyclables in the blue cart due to changes in the world market, you’d think the division wouldn’t have gotten much love on the community satisfaction survey that was rolled out right after the switch started.
The level of satisfaction the 3,010 survey respondents gave when it came to being ow happy they were with the city’s trash and recycling collection was the highest of all departments with 11.59 percent very satisfied and 41.91 percent satisfied. Another 16.62 percent were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied leaving 14.11% dissatisfied and 14.51% very dissatisfied.
You couldn’t tell that was the case from some of the howling on social media.
