Tracy Johnson has either walked or ran all of Manteca’s 329 miles of streets located within the city limits.
The 52-year-old was recognized for her achievement Tuesday by the Manteca City Council.
In accepting the council resolution, Johnson said she started hitting the streets of Manteca when the pandemic restrictions forced her to forgo hikes on her favorite trails in Yosemite and the Bay Area.
Johnson said that while she has always liked living in Manteca, walking and running the entire city gave her a greater appreciation of the community, how people care for their yards, and the different mixture of housing, scenery and attractions.
Johnson, who noted she was a grandmother, encouraged others to get around Manteca on foot to get a better sense and enjoy what Manteca has to offer.
It took Johnson 23 months to over all 329 miles.
Get ready for Captain
Moore Avenue
Ceremonies are tentatively set for Thursday, June 16, to christen Manteca’s second honorary street name.
The City Council Tuesday agreed to attach the honorary street name Captain Moore Avenue to the segment of South Powers Avenue between Yosemite Avenue and Main Street.
It will honor the memory of Manteca Fire Captain Tom Moore who died in the line of duty on June 16, 1999. Moore was assigned to the Powers Avenue station. He had served the community for more than 20 years at the time of his death.
Thomas Street was the first street in Manteca to carry an honorary street name beneath the official street sign carrying the name Jim Thomas Street. The signs were put in place in November of 2020 in honor of Jim Thomas who served as a Manteca Unified School District superintendent.
The city’s honorary street names and signs program does not replace existing names and signs. Nor will they appear on official maps or Google Maps.
The honorary signs besides being of a different color and design, are placed below the primary street sign. A fee covers the cost of the installation and manufacture of the honorary sign(s) as well as staff time to process the request.
Eligibility requirements for the signs are names of people of historical significance who have made contributions to the city. They may be living or deceased individuals.
