From left, Ripon Councilman Leo Zuber and City of Ripon Director of Public Works James Pease recently accepted a check from Ripon Lions Club President James West and Treasurer Tim Higbey to help cover the cost of trees planted along the fence line at the Ripon Community Center.

Plans to plant trees at the Ripon Community Center will serve several purposes.

For starters, the tree line will be a visual and noise barrier while separating the playing fields from the distractions of the truck traffic in the adjacent parking lot.

Ripon Counclman Leo Zuber mentioned that upon accepting a check from the Ripon Lions Club. He along with the City of Ripon Director of Planning James Pease accepted a donation from the local service organization for $1,600 to help cover cost.

Lions Club President James West and Treasurer Tim Higbey had the honors of presenting the recent donation.

Pease said at the Sept. 8 Ripon City Council meeting that 14 new trees will be installed and bordering along the southern fence line of the park and nearby Wever Trucking “in an effort to screen and fill the south side of the park,” he added.

The planting of trees will be done by the Public Works Department – staffers will also handle the ongoing watering and pruning, as needed.

In addition, minor adjustments to the irrigation system at the Community Center park will be performed by Public Works, Pease said.
