The Ripon Police Department is seeking applicants for a dispatcher.

The position was posted on the City’s website.

“Dispatchers (will) receive all calls for police services for the cities of Ripon, Escalon and Lathrop in the summer of 2022,” according to www.cityofripon.org

Those interested must fill out an employment application and furnish a job resume along with a copy of typing certification with minimum of 45 words per minute within the last 12 months.

The City of Lathrop is in the process of putting together its own police force while entering into an agreement not too long ago with the City of Ripon to provide full dispatch services.

The position calls for dispatchers being able to “obtain accurate information under difficult conditions by quickly evaluating emergency situations to determine the nature and urgency of the calls,” the job description said.

Other requirements ask for applicants to have a high school diploma or GED and one year experience of working with the public.

In addition, they’re required to pass a background investigation, psychological / physical exam, pre-employment drug and alcohol test and a hearing evaluation prior to being hired.

The dispatch center is receiving some upgrades.

The Ripon City Council recently approved the purchase of computer servers along with the backup storage and hardware associated with bringing the computer network up to industry standards.

Elected leaders also green lit the purchase of new dispatch console radios, replacing the current outdated system in order to bring the fourth dispatch station into service.

The deadline to turn in applications for the dispatch position is Feb. 28.
