RUSD honors school resource officers

The Ripon Unified Board of Trustees honored local police officers Gordon West and Alex Burgos.. They’re joined by (from left) student board member Dillon Saltsman, Caroline Hutto, Christina Orlando, Chad Huskey, Vince Hobbs, Superintendent Ziggy Robeson, and board President Kit Oase.

The Ripon Unified School District paid tribute to its partnership with the Ripon Police Department.

Recognized for their services at the monthly session held in the Council Chamber were School Resource Officer Gordon West and Detective Alex Burgos.

West is the School Resource Officer for the district. He’s been the SRO there since 2020.

He began his law enforcement career with the local police department in 2002 – his prior assignments with RPD included patrol officer and detective.

West also serve as an Explorer Advisor and Honor Guard.

As the SRO, he’s known for his involvement and dedication with the local schools along with working tirelessly to keep students and the community safe.

Burgos has been with the police force since 2001.

In recent years, he was recognized as “Ripon Police Officer of the Year.”

In 2013, he was assigned to the RPD Investigations Unit as a detective, having performed in the past on the bike patrol, quad patrol, Field Training Officer. SWAT and Firearms Instructor.
