Save Mart opening third Manteca store at Atherton & Main

A rendering of the Marketplace at Main shows Save Mart as the anchor, McDonald’s on the corner, a Quick Quack Car Wash along Main Street, and a Starbucks as well as Chipolte Mexican Grill along Atherton Drive.

Save Mart has come a long way since it opened its first Manteca store in 1965 in Lincoln Center on West Yosemite Avenue in space now occupied by Hafer’s Furniture.

And it will be reflected when their third Manteca store breaking ground June 30 opens in 2026 as the anchor for Marketplace at Main shopping center.

The new 52,000 square foot store will be almost double the size of Save Mart’s existing stores on West Yosemite Avenue and on North Main Street. As such, the new store will offer features the older ones don’t.

“Marketplace at Main represents a significant investment in the future of south Manteca,” said Scot Patterson, CEO of California Gold Development Corp. “We’re incredibly excited to partner with the local Brocchini Family (lifelong residents of Manteca) and Save Mart to bring much needed retail amenities to this vibrant and fast-growing area of South Manteca.”

“This is truly a neighborhood grocery anchored shopping center with the amenities that will serve the daily and weekly needs of the residents of Manteca.”

Patterson said hundreds of jobs will be created once all space is occupied. That is in addition to hundreds of construction jobs.

Four other concerns have already signed on to occupy free-standing pads for the shopping center being built on the southwest corner of Atherton Drive and South Main Street.

They are Manteca’s:

*second Chipotle Mexican Grill

*third Quick Quack Car Wash.

*fifth McDonald’s restaurant (it will be on the corner of Atheron and Main).

*eighth Starbucks location.

The 18-acre development project is fully entitled for 116,000 square feet of retail space that also includes a junior tenant.

"We’re excited to break ground on Marketplace at Main, a major investment in Manteca’s future,” noted Manteca Mayor Gary Singh. “This center will bring new energy to South Main Street, anchored by a 52,000-square-foot Save Mart featuring fresh, competitively priced products every day and complemented by 64,000 square feet of additional retail and dining space, which is exactly the kind of amenities our residents have been asking for.”

Singh said it gives the community a big win as it also involves widening Main Street from the 120 Bypass to Woodward Avenue, upgrades the intersection with Atherton, and improves access to the freeway.

Save Mart’s roots run deep in Manteca.

The seeds of Save Mart were planted by Mike Piccinini when he and his brother opened Mike’s Market in what is now Accent Carpets on North Main Street. Two original black and white photographs of the old Mike’s Market are part of the Manteca museum collection.

Piccinini partnered with Nick Tocco to open the first Save Mart store that was located in Modesto.

Save Mart benefits from longstanding friendships with local ranchers, farmers and producers who help ensure stores are stocked with fresh, competitively priced products every day.

The Save Mart Companies operate 194 Save Mart, Lucky, FoodMaxx stores in neighborhoods throughout California and Western Nevada. One of the West Coast’s largest regional, full-service grocery chains, the company and its more than 12,000 associates.
