The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating an accident that happened last week in Stockton when a San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Deputy struck a pedestrian.

And that pedestrian was an off-duty Stockton Police Officer.

According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the “slow speed” collision occurred near the intersection of El Dorado and Washington Streets. At the time that the agency reported the incident, the off-duty Stockton police officer that was struck had sustained “non-life-threatening” injuries and was transported to an area hospital as a precaution.

No additional information about the incident has been released.

It was just over two years ago that a San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a deadly vehicle accident on I-5 just south of Stockton’s Charter Way exit when a woman stopped her vehicle – with her infant son in the backseat – in the middle of the freeway.

The officer struck the back of the sedan, sending the vehicle careening off the freeway and down a steep embankment. The officer, who was eventually treated for his injuries and released, managed to get out of vehicle and climb down the embankment where he discovered the infant in the car, pulled him out, and began CPR.

Ultimately the crash claimed the life of 23-year-old Kalesha Johnson and her 1-year-old son. While the infant died hours after the accident at an area hospital, Johnson remained in critical condition for four days before succumbing to her injuries.

According to the Stockton Police Department, the officer was on his way to work when he was struck by the deputy’s patrol car. He is expected to recover fully from his injuries.

In their announcement about the incident, the sheriff’s office offered their thoughts and prayers for the injured officer and the Stockton Police Department as a whole.
