When Marisella Guerrero first glanced at the Manteca Unified School Board Trustee Area 7 race on election night, she was excited by the tally.

The pharmacist, college professor and mother of two, was the early leader in the five-candidate race.

On Wednesday, she all but secured her seat on the school board with 1,649 votes, finishing ahead of former Manteca City Councilman Mike Morowit (749) and incumbent Bob Wallace (715). Christina Compoy-Laughlin tallied 553 votes.

"I'm excited and grateful," said Guerrero, who thanked those who supported her during this campaign.

She's not the only newcomer on the board.

In the Trustee Area 3 race, educator Melanie Greene was the top vote-getter at 3,411. Board-appointed Karen Pearsall had 964 votes.

"I want to thank everybody for their patience and support," said Greene via social media.

Incumbent and board Vice President Eric Duncan was successful in his re-election bid. With 1,716 votes, he beat out Lilia Lara Barbosa (684) for the MUSD Trustee Area 1 seat.

Ripon Unified
Vince Hobbs was appointed to Ripon Unified School District's Trustee Area 2 post about a year ago.

It was the seat previously occupied by Annette Vande Pol, who resigned early in her term.
Hobbs, in order to retain his post, had to run in this election for the remaining two years left on the term.

He did just that, beating out Michelle Monroe, 529-229.
