An 18-year-old woman from Stockton was shot in the head Sunday night as she was rising as a passenger in a car on Louise Avenue east of Airport Way.

The passenger in an eastbound 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix was shot at about 10:30 p.m. She is currently in very critical condition at a regional trauma center.

Manteca Police reported the vehicle came under fire by a Hispanic male estimated to be in his early 20s shooting from another moving vehicle described as a gray BMW, unknown model or year of make.

It was about 15 minutes later officers responded to the initial 9-1-1 call from the 1500 block of Rosemary Court of a drive-by shooting with one person having been shot in the head.  When they arrived, they located a  teenage female with a head wound.  She was immediately transported to a regional trauma center in French Camp by Manteca Ambulance.

After the shooting, the driver of the Pontiac drove the injured woman to the Rosemary Court address — two blocks north of Louise Avenue — and called 9-1-1. The driver of the car was a 21-year-old Manteca male.

Manteca Police Sgt. Steve Schluer said the shooting investigation is active, noting the reason for the assault is unknown.  Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Manteca Police Department at 209-456-8101 or Detective David Bright at 209-456-8168.
