It’s Dorothy Radisich Day at St. Jude Care Center today. The former nurse and Manteca resident is celebrating a major milestone seldom heard of – her 104th birthday.
She will be surrounded by family and friends, as well as the staff at the former Palm Haven Care Home, said activities director Patty Rios.
This is the second time that Radisich has marked that red-letter day at the care center in the last three years. She happened to be at the facility two years ago when she turned 102. A party was thrown in her honor on that day as well.
“This is the third time she’s been back” at St. Jude since that time, Rios said.
She describes Radisich as someone who has a smile on her face all the time. It’s no surprise her favorite song is, “You are My Sunshine,” the activities director said, and would break into song anytime.
What everyone finds remarkable about Radisich, said Rios is her friendly nature and warm spirit. “Oh, my God, she’s very bright. She’s a bright lady. She’ll keep a conversation going, when she’s actually there with us. She likes little jokes, and she loves to sing. She’s just a big, big sunshine.”
Several members of her family are expected to be there today for the celebration. Radisich comes from a big family, and lives with her daughter in Manteca.
“We adore her. Even our patients’ family members just like her. They’re shocked to learn her age,” Rios said.
