Former Manteca Idol contestant Reggie Ginn is moving right along in her music career.
Ginn –who performed as Mary Wells during her back-to-back Idol runs – will hit the stage at Modesto’s Copper Rhino with a full band backing her on Friday, Aug. 26. The show will give local fans the opportunity to see the singer-songwriter who usually performs with only her keyboard playing with a rock edge.
“That’s really always been the dream with the music, but it’s been difficult to arrange. It’s finally starting to come together now,” said Ginn – who now resides in Sacramento. “The band fills out the music more, and we’re going to be able to give people some ground-shaking music. It’s something to rock out to.”
The four-piece ensemble consisting of Ginn and her keyboard, a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer have been playing together since January when they started rehearsing to put together her third full-length album. It is dubbed “Passion in Perspective” and expected to be released either in late-September or October.
She’s hoping that the full-sound that the band adds will open more doors and help feed her insatiable appetite for performing in front of people.
“I think that the thing that really keeps me going with this is positive feedback and performing live,” Ginn said. “There’s that connection and being able to tell the crowd something I wouldn’t be able to tell them otherwise. Music is a great outlet, and it’s a chance to put a lot of emotions out there – a great release.”
The cost of show is $5 at the door, and five acts including Ginn will be performing. Because The Copper Rhino – located at 927 10th Street in Downtown Modesto – is a bar, the show is 21 and over only.
With work of the album consuming most of her time, Ginn hasn’t been able to play as many live shows as she normally does – averaging two a month throughout Northern California. She plays mostly songs that she wrote herself, and occasionally will throw in cover tracks as well.
“I’m looking forward to playing this show because my friends and family will be able to come out and see this,” she said. “Things have been kind of slow lately because we’ve been working on the album, but I really don’t like getting rusty. I can’t wait to get out there.”
