LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in Las Vegas are investigating a carjacking that left one man dead and another critically injured.

KSNV-TV reports the carjacking began about 11 a.m. Sunday at the valet parking at the Flamingo Hotel on the Strip. It ended minutes later with a crash a few blocks away in front of the Rio Hotel & Casino.

Police say two California men were loading their pickup at the Flamingo when another man jumped into the driver’s seat.

The two Californians dove into the bed of the pickup as the thief fled westbound. Police say he ran three red lights and was sideswiped by an SUV before the victims were ejected.

The alleged carjacker also was hospitalized with unknown injuries.

Three people in the SUV were treated for injuries and released.
