SCA Championship
Tournament Aug. 8


The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), Barony of Fettburg, is holding its annual Championship Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.


It  will be held in the park behind the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane. They are inviting the public, especially teachers, students and their parents to attend this free event. The Medieval Tournament will start at approximately 10 a.m. and run to 1:30 or 2 p.m. There will be both Rapier and ‘broadsword’ contests.


 After the Tournament there will be a series of open classes to introduce people to the SCA and the Medieval history, which we re-create. Classes scheduled include: Introduction to the SCA; medieval clothing and how to make it; Calligraphy; and others - TBA.


 The classes will run from 2 to 4 p.m.


Friends of  Library
meeting Wednesday


The Friends of the Manteca Library will meet on Wednesday, July 15, at 9:30 a.m. in the Library.


Since the library is not open at that hour, please knock on the door for admittance. All interested community members are invited to attend.


Free government
surplus food


Low-income residents of San Joaquin County will be able to obtain free government surplus food Thursday, July 16, at locations throughout San Joaquin County. Distribution will continue until supplies are exhausted.


The food products will be given to those who self-certify that they are residents of San Joaquin County and whose household income are within the program guidelines. Total monthly income cannot exceed $1,354 for one person; $1,821 for two; $2,289 for three; $2,756 for four; $3,224 for five; and $3,691 for a household of 6 persons. They need to bring proof of their address and zip code and a paper bag.

• Lathrop, Lathrop Senior Center, 15557 E. 5th St., 8 to 11 a.m.
• Manteca, Manteca Library, 320 W. Center (McFall Rm), 7 to 9 a.m.
• Escalon, CARE Center, 8 to 10 a.m.
• Ripon, Ripon Community Center, 312 W. 4th St., 7 to 9 a.m.
Participants must bring a grocery bag to help with the distribution.

Frito Lay sponsors
 blood drive July 21


Frito Lay and Delta Blood Bank as will host a community blood drive on Tuesday, July 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It takes place at Frito Lay at 1190 Spreckels Avenue. The mobile donation bus will be at the location. For more information contact Patty at 824-3764.

reunion set Sept. 18


The Manteca High Class of 1949 reunion takes place Friday, Sept. 18, at Chez Shari at the Manteca Golf Course. The reservation deadline is Sept. 1.

Legion Post 249
seeks members
The American Legion Post 249 would like to make fellow veterans who served in the military a part of their family.  
They meet once a month on the second Tuesday at 7 p.m. Each month the Post hosts a dinner on the third Saturday at 6 p.m.  They are active in the community putting out flags among others things.
