Zoo Zoom fun run/walk June 9 supporting Micke Grove Zoo

LODI  - The Micke Grove Zoological Society is sponsoring the Third Annual Zoo Zoom 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Run. 

This year’s event will be held Sunday, June 9, at Micke Grove Zoo. Races for children ages 8 and under begin at 8 a.m. and will be immediately followed by the 5K.  Runners will follow a course through Micke Grove Park and finish at the Zoo’s entrance where a pancake breakfast will be provided by the Kiwanis Club of Greater Lodi.  All participants will receive free admission to the Zoo and the children will be able to participate in special activities and meet athletic team and business mascots.

Pre-registration closes Thursday, June 6, and is available on the Zoo’s website (mgzoo.com) and on Active.com (search Micke Grove Zoo).  Race day on-site registration will begin at 6:30 a.m.  All 5K participants will receive a run T-shirt and medals will be awarded for men and women in all age categories.  Children that participate in the kids’ races will receive a stuffed animal toy and a special participation certificate.  KHOP 95.1 radio will provide music, entertainment, and free giveaways.

Funds generated from registration fees will support the unique and engaging programs provided by Micke Grove Zoo’s talented Education Department staff to school children throughout San Joaquin County and beyond. These programs include the use of live animals and bio-facts in order to support California state science curriculum standards.

Micke Grove Zoo is San Joaquin County’s treasured community resource for schools and families and is located within Micke Grove Park at 11793 N. Micke Grove Road in Lodi.  Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open every day of the year except for Christmas. Zoo admission fees are $2 for children 3 through 17 and $4  for adults. Parking fee information is available on the zoo website. School groups are able to schedule programs at the Zoo or programs that will go into the classroom.  Exciting new classes and programs are available for children as young as 2 as well as Zoo After Dark tours for the whole family.  Additional information is available at mgzoo.com.
