Patrick Caldwell will be honored at tonight’s Ripon Unified school board meeting.

The sixth-grade student from Ripon Elementary took first place in last month’s San Joaquin County Spelling Bee, surviving a tough 12-round spell-off against Amelia Ellison of Vinewood Elementary in Lodi.

He and Ellison, as representatives of SJ County, will advance to the California State Elementary Spelling Bee conveniently at the San Joaquin County Office of Education building on April 26.

Trustees are scheduled to recognize Caldwell during the 7 p.m. open session in the Council Chambers of Ripon City Hall, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

Other items include:

•A public hearing on pupil-to-teacher waiver request for the California Connections Academy @ Ripon Charter School.

•An update on the RUSD Trustee Area redistricting. The board could give Superintendent Bill Draa and the Board Committee directions on a waiver request to the State Board of Education.

•The board will also discuss updates on the Weston School deployment as construction for the remodeling of the K-8 campus is scheduled to take place at the end of this school year.

•Trustees will select a two-person planning committee to look into use-of-facility waivers.
