Fresh off a performance at Los Angeles’ Viper Room, Icarus Jones will be on tonight’s “Souzapalooza” bill at Rocko’s Sports and Spirits, 757 N. Main St., Manteca.

The cost is $15 with all proceeds benefiting Jason Davino, a cancer patient and one of the owners of Fuzion Salon and Spa.

“Souzapalooza” – the brainchild of Manteca High 2000 graduate Mark Souza, who, about five years ago, started the annual event as a celebration of his 21st birthday – begins at 6 p.m.

Justin Newsom, aka Icarus Jones, is the front man of the group which received praise from one publication as “arguably the best band to come out of Stockton in recent years.” The Collective is noted for tying things together by bringing the best of the local hip-hop, blues, jazz, funk, roots and rock scene.

Members of the band also include DJ No Shame, Nick Johnson, Rebella Goldsmith, drummer Justin Anderson, and the Bulletin’s own Stanley Raquel on guitar.

Odessa and Greyspace are also on the “Souzapalooza” card. Both are relative newcomers to the Stockton music scene.

Souza conducts his annual benefit on the day before Easter Sunday. Each time, the proceeds will go to someone in need around town.

It was brought to his attention that Davino, who has been receiving treatment for Level 4 malignant melanoma, was without medical insurance while living on a limited income.

In addition, donation buckets will be placed at both in the indoor and outdoor sections of Rocko’s during “Souzapalooza.”
