David HairstonNavy Airman David L. Hairston, son of Sheronne and David Hairston of Ripon, assigned to Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), which recently received the Battle Efficiency Ribbon or Battle “E” award, given to the most battle-ready carrier in the Pacific fleet.
Reagan is currently undergoing a planned incremental maintenance period (PIA) and moored in its homeport of San Diego.
Carmen GarciaArmy National Guard Pvt. Carmen Garcia has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
She is the daughter of Victor and Odilia Garcia of Gainesville, Ga., and granddaughter of Basilia Villegas of Manteca.
Edwardo N. TironaArmy Reserve Pvt. Edwardo N. Tirona has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
He is the son of Virginia Santos of Tumbleweed Lane, Lathrop and Norlito Tirona of Maple Way, Alameda.
Tirona is a 1997 graduate of James Logan High School, Union City.
