MODESTO  (AP) — Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a man by a Stanislaus County sheriff's deputy who was responding to reports of a family dispute.

Sheriff's officials say the deputy went to the home in the town of Keyes on Monday afternoon.

Sgt. Anthony Bejaran says the deputy first used a Taser on 32-year-old George Ramirez Jr. and called for backup. Moments later, the deputy reported that he fired shots.

Ramirez's family told KCRA-TV that he was severely depressed and that they urged the deputy not to hurt him. George Ramirez Sr. says the deputy refused to listen and shot his son three times after he staggered back to his feet from the Tasering.

HANFORD  (AP) — Police busted a keg party attended by 100 gang members in a teen's home while his mother was at work.

The Kings County Gang Task Force arrested 20 gang members and seized knives, daggers and a machete brought to the weekend party in the San Joaquin Valley home.

Hanford police say officers found three frightened youngsters ages 8, 10 and 13 cowering in a back bedroom. They told investigators their mother was at work at they were frightened by the partygoers.

The 16-year-old boy hosting the party was arrested and booked into juvenile hall for investigation of child endangerment.

FONTANA  (AP) — A suspected Southern California copper thief has been electrocuted after climbing a power pole and using bolt cutters on a live wire, which also caused a power outage.

The body of 26-year-old Robert Buchanan and bolt cutters were found early Monday at the base of a utility pole in an unincorporated area near Fontana.
