Off-duty Manteca firefighters are waiting tables tonight at Applebee’s to raise money to provide free tutoring services to struggling youth.
The firefighters are at the East Yosemite restaurant from 5 to 9 p.m. All tips will go to the Give Every Child a Chance program.
The one-on-one program in Manteca is made up of some 900 students, 338 volunteer tutors, and 29 sites including Manteca High, East Union, and Sierra.
The mentor-tutor program is available to first- through 12th- grade youngsters.
Overall in various programs GECAC serves over 3,000 youth a year.
